Digitizing Michigan's Hidden Past
The Michigan State University Library's Digital & Multimedia Center is providing the following equipment recommendations as a resource for the Making of Modern Michigan regional centers and participants. There are various approaches to assembling tools for digitization of sound and images. Please note that workstations and laptop computers cannot be bought using LSTA funds. Such equipment will, however, be available at the Regional Centers.

Recommendations are broken down into five groups:

There may be a number of equivalent items available from other sources that will match or exceed the specified performance characteristics of what is listed here. Scanning and Imaging

Depending on your needs, you should select at least one audio editing package (two options listed), one CD/DVD authoring package, and one media encoding package for web content delivery. The video software is only required if you intend to capture and manipulate video collections.
