Description
The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. we could stay a little while. Lolla James (?), Miss Tindall (?) and Hughes (?) spent the evening at Mrs. Young (?). The next night came the exhibition at the Methodist church. Everything went off well. Our colloquy was much praised, the music and all was good. Many left school then though it commencement the next morning. The next evening after the exhibition, Em Tripp and I went to spend the evening with Lolla, and the next day I went home, there to stay during the summer.
