The following is a transcription of Martha Baldwin's diary, 1859-1860. Question marks inclosed in parentheses represent words in the original diary that were illegible. Elipses are used to indicate larger portions of the text found to be illegible.

The flowers are all in bloom & everything so pleasant. Sophy came down last night. Father took her home & I rode. Everyone is mourning over last night’s hard frost. 6th. Went over to Mr. Fairbank’s to show (?) about shoemaking. 7th. At home till just at night when I rode out with Father. 8th. We have got a girl now. This afternoon I rode down to the village with Father. Went to Mr. Tom’s. Birmingham is just the same as far as I can see. Letter from Payley & Gus. She wants me to come out commencement so bad. I do wish I could.
