The following is a transcription of Martha Baldwin's diary, 1859-1860. Question marks inclosed in parentheses represent words in the original diary that were illegible. Elipses are used to indicate larger portions of the text found to be illegible.

Arrived home in time for (?). 25 Christmas cold. Old Santa Claus remembered us all. To Father a pair of slippers and a dressing gown. To Mother a work box, to Mary a thimble, to myself a lamp print dish and thimble and to Willy sweetmeats. Went to the Presbyterian church. It did indeed seem much like old times to see all the Posts, Clara, Gus Calvin & all. I was glad to see Gus. She came Friday with the Davenports. This evening I went to the schoolhouse to hear Mr. (?).
