The following is a transcription of Martha Baldwin's diary, 1859-1860. Question marks inclosed in parentheses represent words in the original diary that were illegible. Elipses are used to indicate larger portions of the text found to be illegible.

13th Studying, busy. Frank called & says (?) is married. Another of our friends stepped off. 14th Mollie & I went up to Mr. Gillette’s on horseback. I rode her colt. Had a fine ride. Studying this evening. The school in Franklin is taken so I must look in Troy. 15th Mr. Hill away. Mother went to Pontiac to make a visit. Studying. Mollie & (?) in a few moments to night. 16 Very busy. Went to the public to night with Mollie & Ezra. Had a first rate time. 17 Went to Pontiac for Mother. Got a good scolding for going to the public. 18 Sunday. At church. Went to take a walk & stayed awhile at Mollie’s. Did not get rid of anyone. 19 Monday Went over to Troy to see about the school. Mollie Clara & I went to Lyceum. Adjourned till next winter.
