Description
Interview conducted by Roger F. Lane for the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society. Justice Fitzgerald describes joining the Michigan Supreme Court and Supreme Court campaigns. He discusses in detail the case of Scholle v. Secretary of State and the composition of the Supreme Court at that time. He recalls his childhood and education; his time on the court of appeals in 1964; and T. John Lesinki. Justice Fitzgerald goes on to describe selecting a new Chief Justice in 1974; the death of Justice Thomas M. Kavanaugh; and the investigation of Justice John Swainson. He also discusses workers compensation cases, and the legislative role of the court.
