The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. through the week till twelve and one almost every night. April 25. Tis Sunday again. I have been down to church and to sabbath school. My Father is quite smart, and been improving ever since Thursday last. Tuesday I went down to the village through the rain and have been very busy at home through the week. Thursday evening I went down to B, stopped at Adas and took tea with Mandy (?), Hannah and Mary. Eliza W. came home with me and staid till Saturday morning. Gus has been at Macks and went down to church with me. Em is better, I am writing to Miss Orton (?) and have received a letter from Em Tripp. April 26. The work hard. Tonight I went
