The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. some to night but am tired. Tis Saturday night once more, the end of another busy week and we are without company. The Mr. Clemes folks went away to day and it is indeed refreshing to be alone. May 9. Did not go to church to day. Cousin Abbie came down to day. She is just the same as ever. May 10. Went with Abbie to call on Mrs. Leo ______ and on Gus. May 11. Very rainy. Sick all day. May 12.
