The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. have we all met and probably never shall. June 20. To night Father took me down to church at five o’clock. It was very warm indeed. Wilson walked up from church to the house with me and stayed till Father came. Gus came up with me. Eliza Whitney has been turned down from her school. Too bad. We have talked so much among ourselves about going out to see her but ________ never would have got up spunk enough for that. June 21. Oh how very warm, and the mosquitoes are
