The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. and there met Mr. _______ I have often heard Frank Hubbard speak of him but never spoke with him before. July 15. I expected to come home this morning but Gus was not very well so I stayed and went to Frank’s with Maggie this afternoon. They brought us all home tonight and a jolly load it was. July 16. The school at B closed to day. I wanted to go down but could not. Went down on horseback just at night. Julia Post came up. July 17. Went to Gus with Julia.
