The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. September 14. Well that party is over with it went off better than I expected much better. A company of about 20 Mary and Lucy were here and worked. Charlotte appeared in her moiré antique with a wreath of artificial posies to adorn the uppermost.
