The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. be but little loss to our company for he has been so devoted for some time past that he wasn’t worth much to us unlucky ones. Requiat in Pace. September 21. Gus and I went over to Troy called to see Mellie did not see her but learned she was improving. Went to see Mabel but she was not at home. Came back and stopped to see Carrie. September 22. James came up and spent the afternoon. _________ came to tea and we went up to Gus to spend the evening. I staid all night. September 23. Very busy sewing.
