Description
The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. October 1. Went in search of scholars this morning and found enough to make it safe as I thought to look for a room. Have not found one to suit me. October 2. Found a room and rented it but the rent is high. Put an advertisement in an Owosso paper and am to commence a week from next Tuesday. Did not enjoy a boarding place. I know I am running a great risk but am willing to try. I left on the cars at noon and arrived at B at four tired out.
