This page is incorrectly labeled as number 159 - the correct page number is 158. The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. give him an answer then but have concluded not to go. I would like to very much but I know so little about dancing and they are all such good dancers that I am afraid to attempt it. We spent the evening at Mrs. Miles very pleasantly. February 19. A dull gloomy day within but Mary is staying here now and she and Sarah and I do not make it very dull or quiet either within. I have just ________ from the sitting room to write in my journal. I do not see why in the world I do not hear from home. It was week before last that I heard and before a week has barely past and nearer two.
