This page is incorrectly labeled as number 175 - the correct page number is 174. The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. ___ we thought but Mrs. C came suddenly upon us. March 9. Pleasant. Wrote this forenoon. Went to the cemetery with Mrs. Miles, Sarah and Ben this afternoon and spent the afternoon and evening at Marias. This evening when I came, found a letter waiting for me from home saying Grandma was very bad and for me to come to Mr. Clements Saturday. That I can not do for the stages have stopped running but I have written them that I will come by boat and be at _____ Friday. I fear I shall not see Grandma again but that is the best I can do.
