The following is a transcription of Martha Baldwin's diary, 1859-1860. Question marks inclosed in parentheses represent words in the original diary that were illegible. Elipses are used to indicate larger portions of the text found to be illegible.

17th Dull & rainy. 18th Emily Davis and Clara came about ten this morning stayed till after dinner then with Mother went up to Mr. T---- To night Mary & I went up for them and took them home. It was bitter cold. Clara is to teach in West Bloomfield. A letter from Gus. 19th Father & Mother went to Pontiac to night the other folks came in and sang. 20th This afternoon I went down to the village. Called on Clara & Mrs. Hill. Neither at home.
