The following is a transcription of Martha Baldwin's diary, 1859-1860. Question marks inclosed in parentheses represent words in the original diary that were illegible. Elipses are used to indicate larger portions of the text found to be illegible.

Dec 2nd To night I went up to singing school. There were a great many there and yet there was not any one. Snow. Dec 3rd Will came over to night. Mother has been reading aloud. Very cold. Dec 4th Will Mary and I went to Presbyterian church this morning and to Methodist this afternoon and evening. Dec 5th To day I commenced with Mr. Hill. I went at nine and stayed an hour and a half. I am very much interested. I am so provoked to think Mary will chase around with those (?) Went to Lyceum.
