Description
The following is a transcription of Martha Baldwin's diary, 1859-1860. Question marks inclosed in parentheses represent words in the original diary that were illegible. Elipses are used to indicate larger portions of the text found to be illegible.

We had a first good time but it is such a bitter cold night. They perish almost going home. Mack and I have had a good time talking politics. 31st Bitter cold, sixteen below zero. This afternoon I am home. I have had such a good visit with Gus. But ‘tis over now. I found Sophy. (?) Mary T--- and a Mrs. Smith here visiting. It is new year’s eve. Thankful am I that I am not where I was one year ago. Gus and I have been making some high prophesies for the future.
