Description
The following is a transcription of Martha Baldwin's diary, 1859-1860. Question marks inclosed in parentheses represent words in the original diary that were illegible. Elipses are used to indicate larger portions of the text found to be illegible.

At church this morning. Studying between times at church this evening. Jan 2nd This afternoon I took Jane home and borrowed a Lexicon so that now I am ready for (?). Have learned my first lesson. It was bitter cold riding but I did not suppose much. Came home by Auburn and stopped to see Mrs. Dodge. She is looking very poorly both in health and circumstances. Gus went to night. I am so sorry I did not get home in time to see her. Mother was to send down some change but was too late.
