Description
Interview conducted by Roger F. Lane for the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society. Justice Brennan talks about his childhood and education; his experiences practicing law; being elected to the Common Pleas Court, appointed to the Circuit Court, and nominated for the Michigan Supreme Court. He discusses events during his years as Chief Justice, including the appointment of Stuart Dunnings as the first African-American on the Board of Law Examiners. He reads excerpts from his 1969 Law Day speech to the Michigan legislature, and discusses the nature of government and issues related to civil disorder and economic stability.
