Description
Interview conducted by Roger F. Lane for the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society. Justice Coleman recalls her childhood and education, and her experiences as one of very few women attending law school and practicing law in the years before and after World War II. She discusses her work on the Michigan Supreme Court, especially the case of Deziel v. Difco, her sponsorship of an amendment to the state constitution barring gender discrimination, and the trial of Justice Swainson. She then describes her appointment as Chief Justice in 1979, her work on reorganizing the court system in Wayne County, and her activities after leaving the Court in 1982.
