The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. and arrived home at three in the morning. But everyone knew us and we had to own up. April 6th. At school at eight. Very busy with lessons and papers. Tis late and as I was out rather late last night, compositions do not grow well. One year ago today we were at Mr. ______ together and George took us to the music room. April 7. Busy, busy writing for the paper and the harmony (?) this evening with Eliza. A colloquy composed by Mr. C. The School Mom is the title.
