The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. is going to the part tomorrow night. Well, I am willing but am glad I am not one who attends such places. How pleasant it would have been had they got up some picnic or something of the sort. I went to sabbath school this afternoon. A good many there. Tis cool tonight and I have been sitting in the parlor talking to Father. Mother is not well. She is so down that I fear something serious will come of it.
