The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. July 18. Went down to church this morning to sabbath school this afternoon. I am just about tired and visited out. I thought I would study so much this week. But what is to be done. Invitations must be accepted and company entertained. July 19. At home Mother has had company. July 20. Gus came down here to pick currants today and we went to Birmingham this afternoon. Took tea at _______ had a pleasant time.
