Description
The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. August 4. Went down to the _______ on horseback to night and just as I had gone, Gus came. I was very sorry indeed. I saw Elija Whitney and _______. Tis so pleasant now to ride in the cool of the evening. I enjoy it much. August 5. Now while the carpenters are here I have so much to do that I can’t go away only just at night. Tonight Mother and I went up to Gus. I must write yet some if I can.
