Description
The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. August 14. I have been down to the village this evening. Saw Billie who told me Jessie was sick. Poor girl I went to see her. God’s ways are indeed mysterious. We know what a day or an hour may bring forth. She so strong and healthy was the last one we thought upon whom the hand of disease should be laid.
