DescriptionThe following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. August 21. Jane Patrick came down today. She and Mother have been out riding.
August 22. At church and at sabbath school. My birthday.
Eighteen years have oer me past/
Eighteen years of joy and pleasure/
Filled with hopes of bright tomorrow/
Filled with blessings without measure.
Years of my childhood. For time brought this day the last. Time has born them swiftly from me and sadly do I call them, past.
Swiftly, swiftly have they flown. Years of joyous youth while parents hands have led me in the ways of love and truth.
