Description
The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. August 26. Rainy and sick. August 27. Up to Gus this afternoon and had a pleasant time. August 28. Tis the close of a cold rainy day and I am as I have been for sometime first wondering what I shall do the coming winter. I know nothing as yet as to what I shall do though have written concerning a school or the chance for locating one. A year ago today we were preparing our room in the village but if tis possible to teach I do not mean to go back again. Hope for the best.
