The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. with Father. There was a great (all but the number) Republican meeting there. I went to the Baldwins saw James for the first time since he came home. September 19. Down to church and to sabbath school. September 20. A beautiful day. I am entirely discouraged. Last week I thought I should surely go out to Owosso to see about teaching but could not go nor is there any probability of my going at all. I do want to know what is to be done. Gus at Ypsilanti and I away, what will we do?
