Description
The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. They were invited out to tea and I supposed would go early but on the contrary they stayed til [sic] 10 o’clock. We had a pleasant time. Gus staid for the last time. Emily leaves tomorrow. I wrote in her album as follows. Dear Emily Side by side for three short years have we bowed at knowledge shrine striving to grasp the treasures hidden in her sweet cells. Together have we enjoyed the countless pleasures of schoolday
