DescriptionThe following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. October 4. Went to sabbath school and Mr. Jones. Last night had not a doubt that I should go to Owosso but my Father and Mother think I am running too great a risk and of course I shall not go without their consent.
I a perfectly discouraged. I think that I should have stalked through mud and mire out there all for nothing. They will be apt to think if I do not come that I was just escaped from some mad house. Tis all for the best.
