Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. people the dirtiest. October 27. This morning I went down to the post office but no letter. I went to see about Mr. Hikes Hall but the rent was three a month instead of three per ______ as I had supposed, so I was down there. I then looked around some for a room but found none to suit. Today morn, George spoke of a room and found it could be had for 1.50 per month which will do very well. I can pay expenses at any rate and I think I can make at least something over, shall probably commence with about 15
