Description
This page is incorrectly labeled as number 189 - the correct page number is 188. The following is taken from a transcription of Martha Baldwin’s diary (1858-1859). Illegible sections of the original text are noted as follows: ______. A parenthetical question mark (?) follows words in the original text that were not completely legible but were still transcribed. March 29. A cold windy day. I have been at home making shoes and looking like a fright. This afternoon, Mr. Mathews called to see about getting a teacher for the District over by the ______ schoolhouse. I saw that Father and Mother would not say anything about it but wanted me to decide it for myself, so I told him I would let him know this week. But I saw they do not want me to teach so I shall not. That is they do not want me to teach unless I could get the school in B in which case they think it would pay.
