Description
Station Number Five, depicted here on Grand Haven's north shore, was built in the late 1870's. Captain Loutit became the first superintendent of the U.S. Life-Saving Service here when it was formed on May 1, 1877. At this time, Grand Haven was assigned to the Eleventh Life-Saving Service District.
