Description
Photo of Michigan Avenue wooden bridge over Grand River. Built in 1863 to replace first bridge which was a wooden bent bridge built in 1848 at the expense of the State of Michigan. This structure remained in use until 1871 when it was replaced by an iron bridge. Staircase in middle of bridge led to dock used by steamboats that conveyed passengers on river excursions.
